OBJECTIVES
1- To determine the frequency of graft rejection in renal Transplant recipients.
2- By determining the frequency of Etiological factors we can prevent or delay the graft rejection.
DESIGN: Case series study.
PLACE AND DURATION OF STUDY: Department of urology and transplantation. King Edward Medical university/Mayo Hospital Lahore Punjab.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: Total patients were 50 . Forty two 42 males and 08 were females. male-female ratio of 5:1. The youngest patient was 18 years old recipient while oldest one was of 70 years. The mean age was 42.5 years. All donors were live-related donors in this series. The commonest cause of ESRD in our series was Hypertension (HTN 48%), Diabetes (DN 28%), Glomerulonephritis (GN 14%), Calculus Nephropathy (CN 08%), and Polycystic Kidneys (PCK 2%). All donors as well as recipients were thoroughly evaluated clinically, biochemically and on radiological basis. The duration of follow up was one year.
RESULTS :In this study none of these 50 recipients developed hyper or accelerated acute Variety of rejection episode. Regarding the acute rejection in these study 03 recipients out of 50 (6%) developed acute graft rejection episode. Chronic rejection was seen 08 cases out of 50 recipients (16%). The etiological factors among these (08) cases were, obesity, donor old age prolonged cold & warm ischemia time due to multiple arteries and compromised tissue match.
CONCLUSION: Rejection can be prevented, can be delayed and can be treated successfully if diagnosed earlier.
