SUBJECTS & METHODS: The study included 161 patients who presented with breast lump, non healing wound & multiple discharging sinuses, while patients who presented with mastalgia & nipple discharge without palpable lump & already diagnosed cases of ca breast were excluded from the study.

RESULTS: Out of 161 patients 69(43%) had fibroadenoma, 30(18%) breast abscess, 22 (13.7%) carcinoma breast, 15 (9.3%) tuberculosis, 11(6.8%) chronic non specific inflammation, 6 (3.7%) gynaecomastia, 2 (1.2%) papilloma, 2 (1.2%) benign cyst, 2 (1.2%) lipoma, 1 (0.62%) neurofibroma and 1 (0.62%) lactational change.

CONCLUSION: Tuberculosis of breast is not an uncommon disease in our area as it is evident from our study. Biopsy should be taken from every patient presenting with abscess, non healing wound, multiple discharging sinuses and breast lump. We do not advocate to establish ultimate diagnosis & start treatment on FNAC reports only.
